Five Days Five Boroughs-2016

Yesterday we took the train from Charm City to Pennsylvania Station in NYC. Walked up 7th Avenue from 32nd to 45th to our hotel, Club Quarters Manhattan.

We arrived in NYC about 3 PM and had a Nathan's hot dog. Which was $8 with fries and soda. Mom and I split one--and the nice panhandler suggested that I choke and die on mine when I refused his suggestion that I help buy one for him. Twice. Welcome to NYC!

After our walk up to the hotel, which was fine, Mom and I got our keys and when we got to our room, there was already someone in there! Back down for another room.

We then met up with J&J at our room, for some wine (after checking in with our guide). Down for dinner (very nice buffet), a brief over view of the week (seven people under 65 of 30 attendees), introductions, and then a short walk to the Empire State Building. Our guide, Mike Grant, talked a bit on the way down (he as a microphone and we all have ear pieces) about the city. We walked past the NYC library with Patience and Fortitude--the two lions outside--and saw Grand Central Terminal from a distance. The Empire State Building was very impressive, but totally over crowded. A real zoo of people. But we got some cool pictures.

We walked back on our own. Had a couple of glasses of water (sparkling or still on tap) and then off to bed.

Of course, when you come down from the 86th floor, you empty out into the gift shop! Thanks for the picture Joan. I did buy a pin (King Kong on the building). I have it on my hat. We are going to find a marker and have everyone sign our hats.

Today, we will have breakfast at the hotel. Then will have a lecture by John Kriskiewicz on NYC, I believe Brooklyn in particular, then spend the day in Brooklyn.
